Just after the New Year in 2019, a junior law student named Xiao Wang from a law school in Shanghai was checked by park staff while carrying snacks into Shanghai Disneyland, and was stopped. Xiao Wang believes that the rules set by the park are illegal, which has infringed upon his legitimate rights and interests, so he filed a lawsuit against Shanghai Disneyland.
On April 23rd of this year, the first instance of this case was heard in Pudong Court, Shanghai. At present, the verdict of this case has not been announced.
According to media reports, in January of this year, when Xiao Wang wanted to enter Shanghai Disneyland with food such as cookies he had purchased, he was stopped by staff at the entrance and told not to bring food into the park. Xiao Wang called 110, 12345, and 12315 successively, and was informed that Disney's relevant regulations were not in violation, and Disney did not agree to refund the ticket. Helpless, she could only leave the food outside the garden.
In this regard, the relevant personnel of Shanghai Disneyland Resort said that the park's provisions on takeaway food and drinks are consistent with most theme parks in Chinese Mainland and other Disney destinations in Asia. Tourists can enjoy their own food and drinks outside the park, or dine at Disneytown or Wishing Star Park. After finishing their meal, they can re-enter the park with their same day ticket.
After the introduction of the new regulations for Disneyland, it has sparked a lot of debate among tourists. Some people believe that since Disney has such regulations in its parks in Tokyo and Hong Kong, it is not inappropriate for Shanghai Disneyland to maintain consistency with them in terms of regulations. Moreover, if visitors feel that the food in the park is too expensive, they can leave the park and dine at Disney Town before returning, where the price is close to the market price.
But some consumers also believe that Disney's ticket prices are already high, and if they leave the park for dining, it takes a lot of time to come and go. In this situation, not allowing tourists to bring food into the park is a disguised form of forced consumption. Moreover, the food in the park is expensive and unappetizing, which is unacceptable.
